Pulmonary metastasis of a papillary thyroid carcinoma and primary lung adenocarcinoma: two coincident carcinomas at the same location

چکیده
UNLABELLED Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a fairly rare phenomenon. The lung cancers are the most common donors, but are exceedingly rare as recipients. Here we report a case of a lung adenocarcinoma acting as the recipient of papillary thyroid carcinoma, with multiple spreading foci of the two cancers in the lung simultaneously. The morphology and immunohistochemistry (Napsin-A, Thyroglobulin) are very important in differential diagnosis of lung primary adenocarcinoma and metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma. Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid constitutes 80% of thyroid malignancies in adults. Females are affected at least twice as often as males. It metastasizes to distant sites very rarely, but to the cervical nodes quite often. Occasionally metastatic lymph node enlargement is the sole presenting feature. t.3.6.7 The tumor is slow growing and sometimes the patient has good survival even in s...
متن کاملPapillary Carcinoma of Thyroid with Nasal Cavity Metastases: A Case Report
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed types of differentiated carcinoma of the thyroid. It is stated that lung is the most common site of metastasis followed by bone. The incidence of paranasal sinus (PNS) metastasis is fairly uncommon in case of thyroid carcinoma. To the best of our knowledge, no case of metastatic PTC to nasal cavity has been reported. In thi...
متن کاملParotid metastasis as the first presentation of papillary thyroid carcinoma
Parotid metastasis originated from papillary thyroid carcinoma is extremely rare, especially as the first presentation of the disease. We present a 70-year-old man with a history of painless swelling in the right side of the neck. He was evaluated for parotid tumor and histopathologic examination revealed a poorly differentiated carcinoma in the parotid gland with suspicion of thyroid origin. T...
متن کاملLung adenocarcinoma and pulmonary metastases coexist in a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma
RATIONALE Multiple primary malignant tumors (MPMTs) are defined as 2 or more independent primary malignancies of different histologies/origins in the same individual. Although the incidence of MPMTs is being increasing, second primary cancer (SPC) is still rare and difficult to distinguish from metastasis. Here, we present a case of thyroid carcinoma with lung metastasis and primary lung cancer...
متن کاملPapillary Thyroid Cancer and Lung Adenocarcinoma Presenting as Two Primary Malignancies in a Patient with Symptomatic Goiter
In rare instances, patients may be diagnosed with two different primary malignancies. Though such synchronous malignancies have been documented in sporadic case reports, the overwhelming majority of malignancies involving multiple organs can be attributed to a primary source. Papillary thyroid carcinoma and lung adenocarcinoma are rarely diagnosed within the same year. Our case report presents ...
